Lesson-excursion at the Rivne Regional Museum of Local Lore

On November 6, 2024, for students of the 22-Z group of the technical department of the specialty "Geodesy and Land Management", a lesson-excursion on the topic: "Soils of the Forest-Steppe Zone of Ukraine" from the discipline "Fundamentals of Soil Science and Geology" was conducted by teacher Neley RUSINA. The excursion took place in the nature department of the Rivne Regional Museum of Local Lore.

The main goal of the lesson is to familiarize yourself with the main types and subtypes of soils of the Forest-Steppe zone of Ukraine and the Rivne region, and the conditions of their formation.

Rivne region is located in the northwestern part of Ukraine in two natural and climatic zones of Ukraine, which influenced the formation of typical soils of these zones.

The uniqueness of the nature of the native land is presented in 4 exhibition halls in the museum premises. Each hall of the department presents exhibits that explain the nature of soil formation. Thus, in the first part of the exhibition, students got acquainted with the historical stages of life on Earth, which influenced the formation of soil-forming (parent) rocks such as clay, calcareous deposits, moraines, etc. In the second hall, panoramas of the main landscapes of the Polissya and Forest-Steppe zones, climatic and hydrological conditions of the region were presented. It should be noted that the climate of the region is temperate continental, the water network includes 171 rivers. The third part of the exhibition is dedicated to the flora of the region and soils. It should be noted that the collection of soil monoliths includes 15 specimens of the main types of soils, including leached black soil, gray forest, sod podzolic, alluvial and swamp (peat) soils. In the fourth hall, the applicants got acquainted with the animal world of the Rivne region.

In each room, students performed practical tasks according to the instructional card. During the lesson summary, students named the main factors of soil formation, named the main measures for soil and biodiversity conservation

The conducted lesson-excursion will significantly expand the awareness of young people on environmental conservation issues and help form competencies in the study of soil cover.
