Cover letter
I. General provisions
1.1. The Regulations on the applicant's motivation letter (hereinafter referred to as the Regulations) were developed by the Admissions Committee of the Separate Structural Unit "Rivne Professional College of the National University of Life Resources and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine" (hereinafter referred to as the Admissions Committee) in accordance with the Procedure for Admission to Higher Education in 2024, approved by the Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine dated March 6, 2024 No. 266, the Procedure for Admission to Professional Pre-Higher Education Institutions in 2024, approved by the Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine dated February 29, 2024 No. 245.
The regulations determine the procedure for submitting, recommendations for the design, structure and evaluation criteria for motivation letters when entering the VSP "RFK NUBiP of Ukraine".
1.2. A motivation letter (other names - Motivational Essay, Motivation Letter, Personal Statement, Statement of Purpose) is information provided by the applicant in writing in any form about his/her personal interest in enrolling in a certain educational program (specialty) and corresponding expectations, achievements in studies and other activities, own strengths and weaknesses, to which, if necessary, the applicant may add (including in electronic form) materials confirming the information provided in the letter.
1.3. The consideration of motivation letters is carried out by the commission for considering motivation letters without assigning them competitive points.
II. Submission and review of motivation letters
2.1. The motivation letter is uploaded to the applicant's electronic account when submitting an application in electronic form.
2.2. A motivation letter may also be submitted together with the application for admission in paper form, in cases provided for by the Admission Rules.
2.3. Submission of a motivation letter is a mandatory condition for the applicant's admission to the competitive selection.
2.4. In the case of submitting applications for admission to the chosen specialty (educational program) through different forms of education, the applicant may submit the same motivation letter.
2.5. The motivation letter is considered by the Commission for considering motivation letters of the Higher Educational Service "RFK NUBiP of Ukraine". The results of considering motivation letters are approved by the decision of the Admissions Committee.
2.6. The results of consideration of motivation letters are used to form a ranking list of applicants. If the competition scores are the same, the priority of applications from the first to the last (for places on state orders) is used to rank applicants, and if the priorities are the same, the consideration of motivation letters is used. If the priority of applications is not used (admission to places at the expense of individuals or legal entities), then if the competition scores are the same, the results of consideration of motivation letters are used to rank applicants. If the ranking list is built without competition scores and priorities, then applicants are ranked only on the basis of consideration of motivation letters.
III. Requirements for a cover letter, recommendations for the content and structure of a cover letter
3.1. The motivation letter is the result of the applicant's personal creative work. The applicant must familiarize himself with the website of the Separate Structural Unit "Rivne Professional College of the National University of Life Resources and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine" in advance and prepare the letter in accordance with the following requirements and rules:
– the text should be concise, divided into paragraphs, each of which contains a certain concept;
– the presence of an emotional tone in the letter is unacceptable; one must strive for restraint, prudence, seriousness, and practicality;
– simplicity of presentation, which will allow the recipient to quickly understand the content of what is read;
– the text must be structured: details, introduction, main part, conclusions;
– it is necessary to avoid spelling and stylistic errors;
– the volume of the motivation letter is from 1 to 2 DIN A4 pages, Times New Roman font, size 14 pt, line spacing 1.5.
3.2. Recommendations regarding the content and structure of a cover letter.
Details
The first part of the letter, which contains data about the addressee (name of the institution of higher (professional pre-higher) education, surname and initials of the person to whom the letter is addressed) and the addressee (surname, first name, patronymic of the applicant, address, telephone number and email address). The details are located in the upper right corner of the motivation letter.
A salutation is an important part of a cover letter. It gives the letter a formal character and attracts the attention of the recipient (for example: "Dear Vasyl Yurievich!"). The salutation is usually bold and/or italicized and centered.
Introduction
One line after the address, an introduction is placed, which is the first paragraph of the letter. This paragraph states its purpose and reason for writing (for example: "I am writing to you in connection with..."). In this part, it is worth briefly explaining why the specialty / educational program was chosen to study at the Separate Structural Unit "Rivne Professional College of the National University of Life Resources and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine" and how studying here will contribute to the professional development and career growth of the applicant, and the achievement of his life goals.
The main part
The third part of the letter, in which the applicant presents arguments to confirm the considered choice of the specialty in which he/she would like to study and an assessment of his/her own abilities, skills, and experience acquired by the time of admission to the Separate Structural Unit "Rivne Professional College of the National University of Life Resources and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine" that will help in mastering the chosen profession. In this part, it is appropriate to describe:
– interest in the subject (why did you choose this particular specialty/educational program and how was the choice made? What are the main goals and objectives you set for yourself?);
– skills and abilities in the chosen field (primarily those that are directly related to the chosen specialty/educational program are indicated);
– work experience, courses, master classes (if available);
– personal achievements (level of academic results at school, which are priorities for studying in the chosen specialty/educational program);
– plans for the future (realization of set professional development goals), goals (knowledge, skills, abilities) that one would like to achieve.
Final part
This is the conclusion of the motivation letter, which is a summary of the arguments presented above and contains an expression of readiness to diligently study in the chosen specialty/educational program.
CRITERIA AND INDICATORS FOR EVALUATING THE APPLICANT'S MOTIVATION LETTER
The motivation letter, as an important component of determining the applicant's place in the ranking list recommended for enrollment in the relevant educational program, is evaluated by a commission consisting of at least three scientific and pedagogical / pedagogical employees of the college in accordance with the specified requirements of the Procedure for Admission to Higher Education in 2024 and the Procedure for Admission to Professional Pre-Higher Education Institutions in 2024 according to the specified indicators. The main criteria for evaluating each indicator are "Original", "Sufficient", "Fair", "Insufficient".
"Originally" - the applicant in full, in a literate literary language, specifically, with the provision of certain supporting documents that prove the validity of the applicant's choice of the chosen educational program, disclosed all sections of the motivation letter; provided deeply reasoned reasons for entering the educational program specifically at the Separate Structural Unit "Rivne Professional College of the National University of Life Resources and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine".
"Sufficient" - the motivation letter violates the recommended structure; there are minor errors; no additional supporting documents are provided; but the motivation for entering a specific educational program is mainly reflected.
"Floor-level" - the structure of the motivation letter partially does not correspond to the recommended one; there are many grammatical errors in the text of the letter; the language of the presentation does not meet literary requirements; additional supporting documents are not provided; the description of personal characteristics that justify the correct choice of studying in the educational program is not sufficiently carried out, the motivation for admission is not specific.
"Insufficient" - the structure of the motivation letter does not correspond to the recommended one; there are many grammatical errors in the text of the letter; the language of the presentation does not meet literary requirements; additional supporting documents are not provided; personal characteristics that justify the correctness of the choice of study in the educational program are not disclosed, the motivation for entering the chosen specialty is not specific or unclear.
