Every year on April 28, Ukraine celebrates Labor Protection Day, established by the Decree of the President of Ukraine “On Labor Protection Day” dated August 18, 2006. This day coincides with the World Day for Safety and Health at Work, which is celebrated at the initiative of the International Labor Organization (ILO), starting in 2002 in over 100 countries around the world to draw the attention of the world community to the issues of labor protection and mortality of workers in the workplace. The idea of holding World Labor Protection Day dates back to the beginning of industrialization of production on the Day of Remembrance of the First Dead Workers, initiated by American and Canadian workers in 1989.
Protecting the life and health of workers from the effects of dangerous and harmful production factors is of great social importance, because the health of workers is the national wealth of the state, as it directly affects a person's working capacity, and therefore - their well-being and the further development of the state.
Occupational safety is an integral part of ensuring the harmonious development of society. Increasing the level of occupational safety culture in society is a guarantee of preserving the health and lives of employees.
Ukraine is actively integrating European occupational safety standards into production and into the legal system, creating conditions for the formation of a modern high culture and responsibility for preserving the life and health of workers.
In 2024, the World Day for Safety and Health at Work, as recommended by the ILO, is celebrated under the motto “Ensuring safe and healthy work now in the face of climate change.” According to the International Labor Organization, 541 million young workers aged 15 to 24 work in hazardous working conditions worldwide. This is more than 151% of the working-age population of the planet.
Almost every third worker aged 15 to 24, which is over 1 million citizens, works in Ukraine. Working conditions and the legal framework must be developed taking into account the interests of young people, ensuring protection from hazardous production factors aimed at preserving the life and health of the future labor potential of our country.
Until April 28, various educational events on occupational safety are being held at production enterprises, institutions and educational institutions: training, lectures, discussions, legal consultations aimed at forming a culture of occupational safety. Libraries are organizing book exhibitions, presentations of publications on occupational safety and other legal literature.
A separate structural unit, the “Rivne Professional College of the National University of Life Resources and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine”, organized an exhibition of literature, visual aids, training, propaganda and personal protective equipment on occupational safety issues for the World Day for Occupational Safety and Health.
The exhibition presents educational literature, manuals, regulatory and legislative documents on issues of social and labor relations and labor protection, introduces regulatory and legal documents of EU countries that regulate relations with employees in various sectors of the economy, as well as personal protective equipment.
The head of the library and information center, Lyudmila Buryachynska, and teacher Volodymyr Mykolayovych Khrystyanovich took part in the preparation of the specialized exhibition.
