Open lecture on the topic "Organic production of fruit and berry crops"

12.03.2024 Olga PETROVA held an open lecture on the discipline "Fundamentals of Agricultural Production" on the topic: "Organic Production of Fruit and Berry Crops" for second-year students of specialty 193 "Geodesy and Land Management" of group 21-Z. 

Purpose of the lecture: to introduce the principles of organic production of fruit and berry crops, to reveal the concepts of organic production, organic product, certification of organic products, stages of transition to organic production and the benefits of organic products. 

Type of lesson by content – informative lecture. Teaching aids used: multimedia presentation "Organic cultivation of fruit and berry products", educational video "Organic production in Ukraine".

Petrova O.M.. revealed the main goal of organic gardening - the production of environmentally friendly products through the complete elimination of chemical plant protection products and mineral fertilizers, especially nitrogen fertilizers. This should be ensured by the following conditions: the soil on which the products are grown must be free of pesticides, radionuclides, heavy metals and other chemicals; herbicides, fungicides and other toxic chemicals, as well as any other chemicals, should not be used during the cultivation of products; planting material and seeds should be environmentally friendly; only organic fertilizers are used; soil cultivation without deep plowing and turning over of layers; the fight against diseases, pests and weeds is carried out only by biological and non-chemical agrotechnical methods; soil protection measures are carried out using mulching.

Was invited to the open lecture Anna KRYVITSKA, project manager agricultural enterprise "AGROORGANIC". The company is engaged in the cultivation and processing of organic berries, including traditional (forest) ones. Since 2016, organic berries and vegetables have been grown: raspberries, strawberries, sea buckthorn and rhubarb. The company includes an apiary. In addition, the guest noted that the company holds field days and is a participant in the International Conference "Organic Processing and Trade". She also spoke about the prospects of the organic market both in the world and in Ukraine.

In the summary part, the teacher held a short debate on the question "Potatoes or milk from "grandmothers" - is it organic or not?"

During the class, students received the necessary knowledge on organic fruit and berry production as a promising direction in horticulture.
