09.03.2024 students of groups 11-Y and 11-IP together with teacher Oksana Lysyak celebrated 210th Taras Shevchenko's birthday during a literary reception from English on the topic: "Taras Shevchenko - the national bard of Ukraine", which took place at the college's BIC.

The name of Taras Shevchenko is a kind of symbol of Ukraine. He is not only an outstanding poet and artist, a national hero, but also a famous and respected artist all over the world. Prominent personalities of different countries and peoples spoke about him with respect: literary critics, cultural figures, presidents.

There are 1,384 monuments to the Great Kobzar around the world. Of these, 1,256 are in Ukraine and 128 are abroad in 35 countries. This is the largest number of monuments to a cultural figure in the world.

English, now spoken and understood on all continents, has introduced Shevchenko to the world reading community the most. To date, more than 80 translators have worked on bringing Shevchenko's words to the English-speaking reader. Almost all of Shevchenko's poetry is reproduced in English.

During the presentation "T. Shevchenko's life and creative way" / "The Life and Creative Path of Taras Shevchenko" students once again recalled the main moments from the life and creative path of the outstanding genius.

Our students also recited Shevchenko's poems in English and Ukrainian at the literary photo booth with great respect for the national bard of Ukraine.

After viewing video in English "Taras Shevchenko Museum. Toronto, Canada" / "Taras Shevchenko Museum. Toronto, Canada", students took a test, answered questions, and discussed, showing their understanding of the importance of Shevchenko's figure not only for Ukrainian but also for world literature, culture, and national consciousness.

For many peoples, Taras Hryhorovych is an example of humanity and patriotism, an example of how to love the Motherland and life itself, how to love people and strive for an ideal society, and in it - justice. Thoughts and feelings embodied in the works of T. Shevchenko are timeless and relevant throughout the world. They do not leave us indifferent, they find a response in our hearts.
