GAMEDEV IT MARATHON: FROM IDEA TO PROTOTYPE

Today, November 12, 2022, started "IT Marathon GameDev: from idea to prototype". The idea of the marathon is to unite students of all specialties of the college during teamwork. The fact that we are all one - VSP "Rivne Professional College of NUBiP of Ukraine" - will allow us to show worthy results of the work of the college staff, which is celebrating its 70th anniversary. Having changed historically from the Rivne Regional Agricultural School for the training of heads of collective farms and a one-year school of collective farm accountants to an institution of professional pre-higher education - a separate structural unit "Rivne Professional College of the National University of Life Resources and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine", the main mission of the educational institution: to create, systematize, preserve and disseminate modern knowledge to improve the quality of life of people; to train specialists of the European level - has not changed.

Therefore, today the institution was visited by Friends who helped start the IT marathon:

  • Andriy Khmelnyk, Executive Director of Rivne IT Education (Rivne IT Education Cluster);
  • Nazar Malanchuk, Director of UPRISE IT Academy;
  • Denys Shentiapin, Animator Artist, Lviv;
  • Dmytro Demchuk, game designer (Game Design);
  • Stanislav Baldych, Unity Developer;
  • Orest Boshchenko, Unity Developer, graduate of the programming department of our college.

Moderator Oksana Nikitska told the teams and participants of the marathon about the conditions for holding the IT marathon. It is taking place as part of the #RivneEduTalks series of events with the support of UKRSIBBANK BNP Paribas Group.

To get the participants off to a good start, speakers shared their own experience in developing game applications. In particular, Dmytro Demchuk and Orest Boshchenko have their own business at GameDev, Stas Baldych, in addition to his experience working in game development companies, has developed a number of video lessons, Denis Shentyapin, an artist and animator with experience working in a large GameDev company, where he is a Team Lead. Denis was invited by Nazar Malanchuk, who has been collaborating with him for a long time.

CONDITIONS FOR CREATING A GAME PROTOTYPE

  • think about the means needed to implement the game;
  • describe the rules of the game;
  • develop a “prototype” design or game mockup;
  • create a presentation of the game;
  • demonstrate the process of the game by team members.

So, the conditions for a successful start have been created! Therefore, we would like to wish the teams successful development of the game prototype and worthy presentation before a qualified jury on November 19, 2022.

On November 19, 2022, the final day of the GameDev IT marathon dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the college took place. All nine teams reached the finals, although not in full force. Certain difficulties associated with the war made adjustments to the development of game prototypes created by the participants. Despite them, we got a good result!

So, four divisions, nine teams, nine themes, nine game prototypes.

The teams listen carefully to the competitors, because the victory depends on how the prototype is presented! The students behaved responsibly and even tried to program the game using Unity, Scratch, Construct. The ideas of the prototypes are wonderful, unique. Unexpectedly for everyone, after the presentation, those present decided to hold such events on a regular basis.
