Amazing Universe.12.04 – World Aviation and Cosmonautics Day (International Day of Human Space Flight)

Humanity began to explore space in the 20th century. First, this was facilitated by the appearance of stratostats that rose to considerable heights, and later by the launches of manned rockets. Space - so close and at the same time far away - has always attracted people. What is there on the stars? How far are they? How do they affect our lives? Are we alone in the Universe?

On April 12, all of humanity celebrates World Aviation and Cosmonautics Day. This holiday was established in honor of the first human flight into space and thus emphasizes man's unbridled thirst for new knowledge.

Ukraine and space are inseparable. Our compatriots stood at the first origins of space exploration and rocketry. With great admiration, we recall the founders of cosmonautics, who were of Ukrainian origin: Yuriy Kondratyuk, a scientist-inventor, one of the experts in rocket technology and the theory of space flights; Konstantin Tsiolkovsky, who went down in history as a scientist in the field of aviation and dynamics, rocket technology and interplanetary communication; Mykola Kybalchych, an inventor, author of the project of the world's first jet aircraft; Mykhailo Yangel, the creator of a series of ballistic missiles. A special place among the giants of the Ukrainian nation was occupied by the talented scientist, founder of practical cosmonautics, engineer Serhiy Korolev. And the aircraft designed by Oleg Antonov became the trademark of the domestic aviation industry.

The first cosmonaut of independent Ukraine was Leonid Kadenyuk. But historically, the first Ukrainian in space was Pavlo Popovych, who flew on August 12, 1962. Until the end of his life, he was proud of his Ukrainian origin.

Ukrainian scientists have made a huge contribution to the development of aviation and astronautics, and now Ukraine is rightfully a member of the global aerospace community.

In honor of this historical event, a thematic information and book exhibition "Amazing Universe" was opened in the reading room of the college's BIC, from the materials of which you can learn about the prerequisites of space flight, how humanity got to this point, and about the contribution of Ukrainian scientists to the aviation and rocket and space industries in Ukraine and the world.
