On April 23, 2024, first-year students at the “RFK NUBiP of Ukraine” celebrated three events at once: English Language Day, 460th anniversary from the birthday William Shakespeare and Book Day!

Organizers: teachers of English Tetyana Kurylas, Oksana Lysiak, Iryna Muzychuk, foreign literature Iryna Hrynkevich, BIC.

The guests of the event were Deputy Director for Academic Affairs Lyudmila Baldych, Deputy Director for Educational Affairs Oleksandr Talimonchuk, and Secretary of the Administrative Council Lyubov Protasevich.

The International English Language Day holiday was established by the UN in 2010 to celebrate multilingualism and cultural diversity, as well as to promote the equal use of all six official UN languages.

The date of April 23 was chosen as the day on which the birthday and death of William Shakespeare are traditionally celebrated.

The name of the famous English poet and playwright William Shakespeare, who lived and wrote in the 16th century, is known throughout the world. He is the author of outstanding works such as: "Hamlet", "Romeo and Juliet", "Othello", "Macbeth" and many other plays and sonnets, which significantly influenced the English language and literature.

But that's not all! He changed the English language so much that it can be divided into "before" and "after" Shakespeare.

Shakespeare introduced more than 1,000 completely new words and expressions, which have become firmly established in the English vocabulary and are still used today.

Watching an educational video lesson about the life and work of William Shakespeare plunged you into the atmosphere of the 16th century, when the outstanding playwright lived and worked.

The virtuoso presenters of the open event were Marchuk Nadiya (12-D) and Momotiuk Karina (11-K).

Active participants of the event Nataliya Veremchuk (11-F), Volodymyr Platonov (12-K) inspiringly read Shakespeare's sonnets in English, and students of the 11-D group Mariana Karpenko and Angelina Saliychuk showed amazing acting skills, playing famous scenes from the play "Romeo and Juliet" in the original language. All the spectators warmly supported the actors with applause.

Students also enthusiastically watched a video greeting from William Shakespeare himself, generated using artificial intelligence by students of the 11th grade group.

Our performance was decorated with an exhibition of student drawings of works by English writers. The vast majority of the works for this exhibition were submitted and presented by Roman Vishnevsky (11-D).

Also, on English Language Day, our first-year students joined the project from 04/19/2024 “Ukraine speaks English” on the Telegram channel, where English teachers from all over the world conduct classes for students of different age categories.

Every time during open events, we are convinced that our college has a lot of talented, active, erudite, reading and thinking students! Keep it up! We admire you!

We sincerely thank all the participants and guests of our holiday!
