Геоквест «Geo-Tech 2024»

Open class in the discipline "Mathematical Methods and Models" on the topic "Geoquest "Geo-Tech 2024"

November 20, 2024 within the framework of GIS Day An open lesson on the discipline "Mathematical Methods and Models" by the teacher of land management disciplines Serhiy BULAKEVYCH was held for students of specialty 193 "Geodesy and Land Management", 5-ZB group.

The class took the form of a geoquest on the theme "Geo-Tech 2024".

The world of geotechnology is changing rapidly, opening new horizons for research, education, and infrastructure development. To engage young people, integrate innovative approaches into learning, and demonstrate the practical value of geographic information systems (GIS).

What is a geoquest?

Geoquest is an interactive game format where participants solve problems related to geography, spatial data, cartography, and modern technologies. It is not only entertainment, but also practical training that contributes to the development of skills in the field of geotechnical analysis, working with maps, and spatial information.

The key goal The aim of the event was to demonstrate how modern geotechnologies help in solving land management problems, to demonstrate the skills of calculating coordinates using the Didgital program, searching for coordinates and GIS tools of points of the geodetic network of the city of Rivne.

The geoquest took place in several stages:

Theoretical blockThe applicants received a brief overview of the latest achievements in the field of geoinformation technologies, including the use of satellite data, drones and digital maps, and were introduced to the traditions of the celebration. GIS Day.

Practical tasks. The participants were grouped into teams (small groups), and were given a task to set geodetic coordinates in the SK63 system. Solving the task involved finding the project point on Google maps and determining its location address.

Presentation of resultsEach team presented their solutions for finding the address of the project current and analytical conclusions.

The correctness of the decision and the speed of execution were evaluated.

The geoquest format, like Geo-Tech 2024 itself, has great potential to engage young people in the fields of science, technology, and innovation. The use of interactive tools in teaching helps make complex concepts accessible and the learning process exciting. Holding such events contributes to the formation of a new generation of specialists who are able to work with geospatial data, analyze it, and make informed decisions.

Geo-Tech 2024 has become a shining example of how modern technologies can be combined with interactive approaches to education. This format will continue to be an important tool for popularizing geotechnologies and developing the competencies needed in the modern world.

The team of Kateryna Maistruk and Iryna Koval received a sweet prize for the victory – a cake, which is one of the symbols of GIS Day.

The motto of the event is Cartographic Thinking, Shaping the World: 25 Years of GIS Excellence
