PLASTIC – A GLOBAL ENVIRONMENTAL CHALLENGE

On May 7, 2025, the next meeting of the scientific environmental circle "Dzherelo" was held, dedicated to one of the most pressing problems of our time - pollution of the planet with plastic. The participants of the event were students of the economic, construction and land and legal departments, as well as the heads of all academic groups of the college in order to involve all students in sorting garbage, namely plastic in the college. The moderator of the event was Stefania MALYMON, a teacher of ecology, scientific director of the environmental circle "Dzherelo".

The meeting began with a report by the group leader, which outlined the history of the emergence and spread of plastic, its unique properties that made it so popular in various industries and everyday life. However, along with the advantages, attention was focused on the catastrophic consequences of its uncontrolled use and release into the environment.

The participants of the group considered the main aspects of the environmental challenge associated with plastic:

  • harm of plastic to the environment;
  • types of plastic;
  • final products of plastic processing;
  • plastic processing plants in Ukraine;
  • use of plastic in construction.

Speeches and presentations were prepared by second-year students of the construction department under the guidance of Iryna CHORNYA, Ph.D., teacher of construction disciplines.

Special attention was paid to finding ways to solve this global problem. At the meeting, Victoria KOZHARKO, a student of the economics department of group 22-O, presented an announcement and instructions for sorting plastic in college, which she developed independently.

The meeting ended with a lively discussion, during which each participant had the opportunity to express their opinion and offer their own ideas on combating plastic pollution. It was decided to conduct a series of information campaigns among college students to increase their environmental awareness and encourage a more responsible attitude towards the use of plastic.

The participants of the scientific environmental circle once again confirmed their willingness to participate in solving global environmental problems and believe that through joint efforts it is possible to reduce the negative impact of plastic on our planet.
