Literary event "Ukraine, you are my prayer...", dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Vasyl Symonenko

Only he lives who does not live for himself,
Who chooses life for others?
Vasyl Symonenko

On January 10, BIC librarians Svitlana Andriychuk and Natalia Smykalo took part in the literary event “Ukraine, you are my prayer…” dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Vasyl Symonenko. The event was held at the “YaMariupol” center in Rivne. The organizer of the event was Valentyna Bendyug, librarian of the Rivne Regional Universal Scientific Library (ROUNB).

On January 8, Ukrainian poet Vasyl Symonenko would have turned 90. On this occasion, forcibly displaced Ukrainians and residents of Rivne gathered at the YaMariupol center in Rivne to honor the memory of the unsurpassed writer.

The host of the literary event told the poet's biography, about his creative path, and read poems. Those present also read their favorite poetry. Even people who might never read his poems should have heard them at least once. "You Know That You Are a Man," "Swans of Motherhood," "You Will Grow Up, Son" are some of the most emotional poems by Vasyl Symonenko.

Those present watched an excerpt from the documentary "Game of Fate."

Nazar Voloshchuk, a famous bandurist in Rivne, performed songs based on the poet's words.

Vasyl Symonenko, having lived a short but bright life, left his descendants an invaluable legacy – his work, which glorified love for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people.
