"Rivne Professional College of
National University of Life
and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine"
On March 11, 2025, as part of the week of land management disciplines, the college hosted a scientific event - a guest lecture by Andriy LEVCHUK, head of the GIS department of UADamage - a platform engaged in the reconstruction of Ukraine. The topic of the lecture: "Monitoring the consequences of war using artificial intelligence and remote sensing data (RS)", which aroused great interest among students of the Geodesy and Land Management Department. The organizers of the event were Olga RUDKO and Oleksandr KUSHNIRUK.
Andriy LEVCHUK spoke about how modern technologies help assess the consequences of war and plan for the recovery of Ukraine. He explained in detail how the UADamage platform uses remote sensing data (satellite imagery) and artificial intelligence to analyze destroyed infrastructure, agricultural lands, and environmental changes.
One of the key ideas of the lecture was that the accuracy and speed of such data allows the government, international organizations, and volunteers to respond quickly to the consequences of war and effectively allocate resources for reconstruction.
Andriy LEVCHUK gave several real examples where UADamage technologies have already helped:
• Determining the extent of destruction in frontline cities.
• Assessment of the condition of agricultural lands affected by hostilities.
• Monitoring environmental threats, such as soil and water pollution.
Students had the opportunity to see what interactive maps created using GIS technologies look like and what artificial intelligence algorithms are used to analyze data.
The lecture aroused keen interest among the applicants. Many of them noted that such an experience helps to better understand how theoretical knowledge of geoinformatics can be applied in practice.
“It was very inspiring. We saw how our future professional skills could help rebuild the country,” shared one of the students from group 31-Z.
The guest lecture by the head of the GIS department at UADamage was an important milestone in the educational process for students at our college. It not only expanded their knowledge of modern GIS technologies, but also inspired them to further study innovative approaches in the field of geoinformatics.
We are grateful to Andriy LEVCHUK for an interesting and informative lecture and look forward to further cooperation with the UADamage platform!
