День вишиванки

Preserving Ukrainian traditions: Vyshyvanka Day in college

Every year on the third Thursday of May, Ukrainians around the world celebrate Vyshyvanka Day - one of the most unique holidays.

День вишиванки

Vyshyvanka Day is an unofficial and relatively young, but very beloved folk holiday. On this day, it is customary to wear national clothing wherever you go - to college, to work, to meet friends, or elsewhere.

The history of this tradition began in Chernivtsi in 2006, when Lesya Voronyuk, a student at the Faculty of History, Political Science and International Relations of the Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University, suggested choosing a day when everyone would wear embroidered shirts. They decided to do it every third Thursday in May.

Teachers and students of our educational institution gathered in a bustling crowd in the courtyard and in the premises of the educational institution to celebrate the solemn event.

Vyshyvanka is a national shrine, because it symbolizes and carries within itself spiritual wealth, high wisdom, and the traditional connection of many generations.

Happy Vyshyvanka Day! May life be embroidered with the colors of health, goodness, and joy!
