Legal education event "Legislation on children's rights"

On the eve International Children's Day, which is celebrated around the world on June 1, students of the 12th group with curator Oksana Lyakhovych and head of the Children's Center Lyudmila Buryachynska became participants in an informative legal education event "Legislation on Children's Rights" in the Svitlytsia of the regional library.

The meeting took place in the format of a live dynamic communication with Yulia Karpovets, a lawyer from the Rokada Charitable Foundation, with the assistance of Valentyna Bendyug, a librarian at the ROUNB. Current issues of legislation in martial law conditions, international legal sources, and specific cases regarding children's rights in Ukraine were lively discussed by students and future lawyers.

In 1924, the League of Nations declared Geneva Declaration of the Rights of the Child, thereby recognizing the need to protect the rights of the child.

Later, in 1959, the UN General Assembly adopted Declaration of the Rights of the Child, and in 1989 – Convention on the Rights of the Child.

International Children's Day is celebrated annually as a reminder of the importance of protecting children's rights and ensuring that they have the right to development, education, and a happy childhood. It is a reminder that every child has the right to life, health, freedom of expression, and a safe environment.

In Ukraine, this holiday has acquired special significance because of the war. Many children, together with their parents, left their hometowns and homes, children in front-line and occupied territories are constantly in danger, some were left without parents, some were forcibly taken out of Ukraine. Therefore, the protection of children is one of the most important issues today.

According to the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, More than 2,590 children have been affected by the full-scale war in UkraineAs of the morning of May 26, 2025, according to the official 630 children died died and over 1960 received injuries of varying severity.

The event was informative, dynamic, and professional. At the end, there was a small quiz based on the materials of the conversation, and the winners received goodies.

We thank the Rivne Regional Library and the Rokada Charitable Foundation for many years of cooperation in the legal education of students.
