“The mountains are calling, the mountains are beckoning…” Tourist trip to the Carpathians

On May 9-11, 2025, students of the economics department took an unforgettable tourist trip to the Carpathians.

The Ukrainian Carpathians are a treasure trove of unexplored opportunities and beautiful places that make us look at Ukraine in a new way. The Carpathians captivate with majestic forests and mountains, rapid rivers and waterfalls, unique Carpathian traditions and culture.

On the way to the Carpathians, the students visited a religious and national shrine of Ukraine - a rock monastery with caves and the Onufriysky Temple in the village of Rukomysh, Ternopil region. It was founded in the 13th century by monks from the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, who were fleeing from Kievan Rus from the Tatar-Mongol invasion.

Unforgettable memories remained from the excursion to Bukovel, where students were able to enjoy the beauty of the picturesque mountains and ride the highest Ferris wheel in Ukraine.

In the Hutsul Land ethnopark, students immersed themselves in the ethnic history of the Carpathians and felt the spirit of Carpathian traditions. Hutsul Land is fascinating stories from the life and livelihood of the highlanders of the Ukrainian Carpathians: Hutsuls, Boykos, and Lemkos. One of the main locations of the ethnopark is an open-air museum (an open-air ethnographic complex). It differs from ordinary museums in that it is interactive with visitors. Here you could both observe and learn folk crafts yourself. An extremely interesting and contact zoo, where domestic, exotic, and wild animals and birds live in natural conditions.

The small and cozy Carpathian town of Yaremche impressed with its colorfulness and picturesqueness. This town is the cradle and pearl of Carpathian culture and traditions.

Along the "Dovbush Trail" the students walked to the picturesque rocks, which are impressive in their power. This is an amazing artistic and memorial complex associated with the name of the leader of the Carpathian opryshki Oleksa Dovbush. The rocks against the background of the spring Carpathian forest, clean mountain air, views of the surrounding mountains, a beautiful view of the Prut River canyon and the hamlet of Yamna made the trip extremely interesting and informative.

Also in Yaremche, we visited the Probiy waterfall - one of the deepest cascading waterfalls in the Ukrainian Carpathians.

Hiking in the mountains is an opportunity to test your strength and see the Carpathians in all their glory. The hike to Mount Makovytsia was extremely interesting. This is one of the highest peaks in the vicinity of the city of Yaremche (altitude 984 m above sea level). The attractiveness of the mountain lies not only in its natural beauty, but also in a certain aura of mysticism that surrounds this attractive and mysterious place.

Jeeping is one of the most favorite attractions of young people, which allows you to see the Carpathians from a completely different side, to feel the real drive of mountain off-road. The students visited the "Steryshora Valley", from where magnificent views open from a height of 1100 m above sea level. The valley is home to a nine-meter high swing, a rope park, a trampoline, wild and domestic animals.

A walk to the Narinetsky waterfall brought a lot of positive emotions. The total height of the water drop is about 10 m. The path to the waterfall ran along an eco-route through the Zalim valley, a high-mountain clearing located at an altitude of 975 m above sea level, surrounded by a spruce forest and the Gorgan peaks.

The natural wealth of the mountains, noisy waterfalls, ringing streams, crystal-clear water, the spirit of Carpathian traditions – all this fascinates and attracts.

We thank the Armed Forces of Ukraine for the opportunity to live a full life in war conditions, to travel and dream...
