Quest "On the Paths of the Old City": a journey into the past of Rivne

On March 10, 2025, a thematic quest was held at the college "On the paths of the old city" under the guidance of Oleg KACHANOVSKY, a teacher of land management disciplines, head of the scientific circle "Cartographer".

The goal of the event was not only to entertain students, but also to introduce them to the historical heritage of the city of Rivne, develop skills in working with cartographic materials, and show how modern technologies can help in studying the past.

A special feature of the quest was the use of a 1939 city map, which was linked to a modern map of Rivne thanks to artificial intelligence systems. This allowed participants to see how the city had changed over the decades, compare the location of historical sites then and now, and find "lost" places that no longer exist in the modern city.

Students, divided into teams, were given tasks related to finding objects, solving riddles, and completing practical tasks. Each step of the quest was thought out so that participants not only used their knowledge of cartography, but also learned new interesting facts about the history of Rivne.

Oleg KACHANOVSKY emphasized that this format of learning allows students to better master theoretical material, develops team spirit and critical thinking. "We live in a world where technologies open up new opportunities for researching the past. This quest is an example of how traditional teaching methods can be combined with innovations," he noted.

The participants of the event shared their impressions, calling the quest not only interesting, but also informative. "It was a real journey through time. We learned a lot about the city we live in, and we had no idea how interesting working with maps could be," said one of the participants.

The event ended with a summary and awarding of the winners. The organizers are already planning to hold similar quests for other groups, as interest in history and cartography among students continues to grow.

The quest "On the Paths of the Old City" became a vivid example of how learning can be not only useful, but also exciting. Thank you to Oleg KACHANOVSKY and all the participants for the interesting experience and new knowledge!
