August 25, 2024 celebrates the 100th anniversary of his birthPavel Arkhipovich Zagrebelny – a man of titanic efficiency, extraordinary erudition and European culture. Even during his lifetime, he was considered the patriarch of Ukrainian literature and a modern classic. One of the most outstanding Ukrainian novelists of the last quarter of the 20th century, he created an entire library of highly artistic historical and modern prose.
Pavlo Arkhipovych Zagrebelny was born on August 25, 1924 in the village of Soloshyn, Kobelyatsky district, Poltava region.
For many years, readers have met Pavlo Zagrebelny's literary critical and literary studies with great interest and eagerly awaited his new works.
Zagrebelny's main genre is the novel, although his work also includes short stories, short stories, and novels. However, among the genre and style diversity of the writer's novels, historical fiction undoubtedly occupies a special place.
The works of Pavlo Zagrebelny are thoughts and reflections about the people from ancient times to the present day, about people who yearn for a miracle from life, seek it and find it, lose it or destroy it, create it in torment and love. Talented in everything, Zagrebelny was a bright example of selfless service to literature, the people, and Ukraine. An entire literary era went down in history with him.
Pavlo Zagrebelny is today one of the most popular Ukrainian writers, whose creative heritage attracts more and more new readers. His works are known far beyond the borders of Ukraine, have been translated into many languages of the world, and have been repeatedly filmed. Not all of them have become an outstanding artistic heritage of Ukrainian prose, but all of them have been actively perceived by the reader, discussed by critics, and to one degree or another have influenced the literary process.
The name of Pavlo Arkhipovich Zagrebelny is not only an important component of modern Ukrainian literature, but also a significant point in the consciousness of every person who knows how to and loves to read. Several generations of Ukrainians have grown up on the novels of this writer. Zagrebelny is probably the only author of the older generation whose books remain surprisingly relevant and popular today.
