Every year on May 31, the whole world and Ukraine celebrate World No Tobacco Day. Opponents of the bad habit call for quitting smoking for at least one day.

About 5.4 million people die from tobacco-related diseases. Studies show that passive smoking affects everyone around them. If we leave this problem unsolved, the number of deaths from tobacco will increase to 8 million by 2030.
According to experts, tobacco smoke contains 4,000 chemicals, including nicotine, which is one of the strongest poisons. Smoking causes an increase in pulse rate, blood sugar concentration, and promotes mild excitability of the cerebral cortex. This effect is the cause of a number of chronic diseases, provokes the development of oncological, cardiovascular, and respiratory diseases. Mortality from lung cancer in smokers is 20 times higher than in non-smokers. Tobacco lovers are 13 times more likely to suffer from angina and 10 times more likely to suffer from stomach ulcers. It is known that a drop of nicotine kills a horse. A dose of 50-100 milligrams becomes fatal for a person.
According to statistics, Ukraine ranks first in Europe in terms of the number of smokers. Every second adult Ukrainian smokes. In total, there are 15.5 million smokers in the country, and the number is growing every year.
World No Tobacco Day was established in 1987 by the World Health Organization. The world community was tasked with ensuring that the problem of tobacco smoking would disappear in the 21st century. In March 2006, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine ratified the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control. The Convention obliges participants to take specific measures aimed at combating this phenomenon.
Quitting a bad habit is not easy. Fortunately, there are many proven ways to quit smoking and start a healthy lifestyle.
Take care of your health and that of your loved ones!
