"Rivne Professional College of
National University of Life
and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine"
As part of the online school for future IT specialists, students of the Rivne Vocational College of NUBiP of Ukraine took part in a meeting on the topic "Web Development and Open Source". The speaker of the event was Maksym Vladislavovych Nedyoshev, a web developer and active member of the Open Source community. During the meeting, he shared his own experience and spoke about the role of open source in the IT sphere.
During the meeting, participants learned that web development is the process of creating web applications, such as Google Meet, Google Docs, social networks, and other online services. This industry is the main specialization of many IT companies in Ukraine and around the world.
Special attention was paid to the topic of Open Source — software with open source code that anyone can freely view, use, modify, and distribute. A well-known example of such development is the Linux operating system.
Participants learned that Open Source covers a wide variety of areas:
- Infrastructure (e.g. Linux),
- Graphics (tools like BUILDER.IO),
- Databases and analytics,
- Artificial intelligence,
- Web development tools (frameworks, libraries, APIs, etc.).
Examples of successful use of open source tools were given:
- company Discord used over 900 such tools when creating its product;
- NASA in 2021, recognized the contributions of 12,000 developers who helped implement the Mars mission through open source solutions.
The speaker also drew attention to the advantages of using Open Source:
- Flexibility and the ability to adapt products to your own needs;
- Community support and access to collective experience;
- Innovationsthat accelerate the development of technologies;
- Educational value — a great resource for learning and practice.
The platform was also considered GitHub as the main platform for open source development. Participants learned how to create their own projects, make pull requests, discuss ideas, and participate in improving other people's products.
Thanks to such meetings, students not only expand their knowledge, but also become familiar with current approaches in web development and discover new opportunities for professional development in the world of IT.
