Every year, when it snows, the townspeople have fun on the slopes of the Rivne “barmakovel”. And no one thinks about the damage that human entertainment causes to the inconspicuous slopes. Few people know that the Barmakov slopes are a territory protected by law. After all, this land is unique. It is here that the largest area of flat virgin steppe in Western Ukraine has been preserved. The tract is characterized as an area where one of the most xerophytic (dry-loving) landscapes in the entire Western Ukrainian region is widespread. In particular, steppe vegetation here is widespread not only on the slopes, as is usually the case in the Western Forest-Steppe, but also on horizontal areas (one of the epithets with which it is sometimes characterized.
Barmakivske tract - Rivne Askania). The vegetation cover has an extraordinary diversity in species and quantitative composition. That is, this is a rather unique area. And we simply eradicate Red Book plant species with our entertainment. And all this happens due to banal ignorance. It was precisely for the purpose of popularization, education and formation of environmental awareness that the decision was made to create the Rivne branch of the Ukrainian Botanical Society. At the meeting held in the house of scientists, the main tasks and goals that the society will implement were discussed. Organizational issues were resolved and the next meeting was agreed upon, at which work on creating a local botanical society will continue.
