A symbol that unites Ukrainians. March 10 - National Anthem of Ukraine Day. March 4 - 210th anniversary of the birth of Mykhailo Verbytsky (1815-1870), composer, choir conductor, priest, public figure, author of the music for the National Anthem of Ukraine

The anthem is a solemn song, adopted as a symbol of state unity. Along with the coat of arms and flag, the anthem is the official symbol of the state. It plays a significant role in public and political life as a means of mass agitation, mobilizing and organizing force. The anthem was created thanks to the composer Mykhailo Verbytsky, and the words were written by Pavlo Chubynsky.

Initially, the music was created for guitar, which was set to the text of a poem by Pavlo Chubynsky. Later, Mykhailo Verbytsky adapted it for choir. The music of the anthem was approved by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on January 15, 1992, and the text on March 6, 2003. The song "Ukraine Has Not Died Yet" was the national anthem during the UNR (Ukrainian People's Republic) and ZUNR (Western Ukrainian People's Republic).

Today, we are all fighting to ensure that the words and music of this work can be heard freely in every corner of our country.

Future composer Verbytskyi Mykhailo Mykhailovych (1815 – 1870) was born on March 4, 1915 in the village of Yavornik Ruskie near Przemysl (Poland) into the family of a priest.

Mykhailo Verbytskyi is one of the first professional composers in Galicia. He wrote a number of orchestral works: 8 overtures, composed 12 orchestral rhapsodies, several operettas "Gryts Maznytsia" and "Scholar on a Journey" in 1849, 2 polonaises, and compiled a collection of pieces for guitar. M. Verbytskyi is the author of choral music ("Testament" to the words of T. Shevchenko), the melodrama "Pidhoryany" in 1864, 12 symphonic overtures (1855-1865), solo songs, two polonaises, a waltz. Verbytskyi is the author of 36 religious compositions, including "Praise the Lord from Heaven", "Holy God", "Glory to the Only Begotten Son", "Izhe Cheruvymi", "Our Father" and others. Mykhailo Verbytskyi died in 1870 in Mlyny, having lived only 55 years.

A special merit of Mykhailo Verbytskyi to the Ukrainian people is the composition of the Ukrainian anthem "Ukraine is Not Dead Yet" in 1864.

The National Anthem of Ukraine is a majestic work in which the soul of our people lives, its glorious history. Today, “Ukraine is not dead yet” sounds all over the world. With it on their lips, defenders go into battle, they quietly sing it in the trenches. After all, when the Anthem sounds, we are all one! And then no enemy will be able to break our spirit, destroy our people and our country. Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the heroes!

A book exhibition has been prepared for the National Anthem of Ukraine Day in the reading room of the library and information center. We invite you to view it.
