On October 28, as part of the week of humanities, an open lesson was held for students of the 11th-IP group on foreign literature on the topic: "The novel as a literary genre. F. Stendhal's "The Red and the Black". The conflict between a young person and society in the novel", which was conducted by Iryna Hrynkevich, a teacher of foreign literature.
The novel "The Red and the Black" is one of the best works of Frederic Stendhal, a true story about French society during the Restoration. In the novel, a criminal story has grown into a true chronicle of its time. This is the subtitle given by the writer to "The Red and the Black" - "a chronicle of the 19th century."
We worked on the image of the main character of the novel "The Red and the Black". Julien is a "genius plebeian", the embodiment of a modern version of the "natural man". The plot of the novel is not the story of Sorel's dizzying career under the Restoration and the depiction of his love affairs with two aristocratic women, but a detailed description of his conflict with the French society of that time, its morals, laws and customs.
The discord between the pathetic way of acting imposed by society and Julien's sensitive nature, between the impure means of struggle and heroic dreams of a life full of greatness and happiness, is the source of the main character's constant mental anxieties and worries. This is how the complex and contradictory character of Julien Sorel is formed.
Over the course of a couple of hours, students from the 11th grade watched a fragment of the film, created problem situations, analyzed the actions of the main character of the novel, and compared him to young people of our time.
