Some may think that various intricate lines, shapes, and surfaces can only be found in the books of mathematicians. However, it is worth looking around, and we will see that many objects around us have a shape similar to the geometric shapes and bodies already familiar to us. It turns out that there are a lot of them. We just don’t always notice them. Triangles, squares, rhombuses, circles… Everyone encounters them not only in mathematics classes, but also in everyday life.
The week of the cyclical commission of general education disciplines began with a photo challenge called "Mathematics Around Us", which was held on October 14, 2024 among students of the general education department by teachers of mathematics disciplines: Larisa TRYHUBETS, Yulia YUKHYMCHUK, Iryna BARANOVSKAYA, Olga ANTONEVYCH.
During the photo challenge, students explored what geometric shapes and bodies are found around us. To do this, they built a geometric shape on paper and found it in everyday life or nature, and took photos of themselves and the shapes.
The implementation of such tasks is aimed at forming the mathematical competence of students, activating their cognitive interest, increasing motivation to study mathematics, developing logical thinking, and revealing students' creative abilities.
